He shrugs.

"You'll be waitin' a while."

"I can live with that, warden."

They take a sip of their cocktail.

"So. How are you expecting this to go, from day to day?"

I am so sorry! I'm just catching up with these that notifs never told me about!!

He considers that as he stares into his drink.

"That depends on you, I guess. Ain't here to be in your space all the time, but I do expect regular meetings. Few times a week. Can be here, just to chat. Go on a walk or a ride. I'll let you choose."

"I choose walking," they say, immediately, "but your terms are acceptable, darling. I've got space in my calendar."

It was the answer he thought they'd give.

"Alright. And what do you want from me? There anything in particular you want me to do or not do?" He's not going to promise anything, but it would be good to know.

They give him a curious sidelong glance.

"What kind of anything did you have in mind?"

"I didn't. You want me to tell you when shit happens to me. I know that now."

He spreads out his hands. He's not looking to get fussed at again by them.

"You do. You'll know when things happen to me anyway, but would you like me to confirm?"

"Rather hear it from you so I know what to do about it," he assures them.

[oohforeshadowing]

"Oh, darling." They place a hand on their chest. "Are you planning to pursue justice on my behalf?"

"Ain't much sense of justice around here," he grumbles softly. "But you're my responsibility, so I'm gonna make sure you're looked after."

"You are impossibly sweet, darling."

Jake sighs. Such is his life apparently. He does try and pry them off with one hand.

"You don't gotta do that," he grumbles.

"I know, but you will keep hating it," they say gleefully, but then step away with a quick turn on their heel.

"Then why do you keep doin' it?"

He tries to make a face, but it's hard when he really doesn't feel it.

"Because it's not my job to make your job easier. And you haven't actually asked me to stop."

And sometimes they just like being a little shit for the sake of it.

He sighs, throwing back what's left in his glass before getting up.

"Yeah, alright. You need anythin' else from me?"

He still does not ask them to stop.

"No, thank you, Jake." They smile slightly. "I'll be seeing you."
